First Look: Whyte 146 X1

Last week MoreDirt were invited to view the 2013 range for both Marin and Whyte Bikes at the Lotus F1 factory in Oxford. We got a detailed look at the next years offerings and over the next few days we shall be featuring some of the bikes that caught our fancy.

This model has the top spec of any of the whyte bikes in the range. It just oozes style with its matte black finish. At £5249.99 you best start saving the pennies!

We are starting with an in depth look at the Whyte 146 X1. This is the top of the range spec of Whytes 26" trail range. It's full carbon monocoque chasis is built around the brand new Sram XX1, 1x11 speed drivetrain with that wopping 10-42 tooth rear cassete and single ring on the front.

This is so exclusive is isn't even a working model of XX1. Its a plastic model that wouldn't appreciate too much strain on it, so that explains the lack of chain tension

It features a carbon wheelset, Reverb Stealth Dropper post and fox 34 FIT forks. Upgrades from last years model include an extra element being added to the frame, joining the top tube to the downtube to increase structural rigidity by almost 11%. This makes it feel more solid than ever, and obviously the integration of the 11 speed drivetrain which this bike is built around. We think it certainly has the wow factor.

The 146 comes in 2 lower specs as well the "Works" with its blue finishing and the "S" with the orange finish

Check out what the designer of the entire range Ian Alexander has to say about it.
