Mountain Bikers to attempt 10 hour 'Epic Brenin' challenge this weekend
The riders will attempt to negotiate every trail at Coed-y-Brenin, Penmachno and the Marin Trail in less than 10 hours. The challenge is the first of its kind at the classic venues and will see mountain bikers Matt Jones, Jason Miles, Dave Powell and Chris Noble ride approximately 90 miles with almost 4,000m of climbing.
Matt Jones and crew successfully completed the first 'Epic Afan' challenge in December 2014 where he rode every trail at Afan Argoed in under 10 hours. Epic Brenin sees the challenge step up a gear by packing in bigger terrain, bigger miles and not just one - but three - trail centers.
The challenge will start at Coed-y-Brenin where the riders will link together every bit of available trail. They'll then jump in the car and head straight on to Penmachno and once complete will use the Sarn Helen Way to access their third and final challenge, the Marin Trail. The ride will test their endurance, technical skills, determination and their team-work.
As the second 'Epic' challenge the group are excited to show other riders what can be done.
Matt Jones said:
"The Epic Afan Challenge was a huge success and a great motivator for the winter months. The first trail center I ever rode was Coed-Y-Brenin and it feels like a perfect place to go next. I can't wait to get stuck in to Epic Brenin and sample some North Wales dirt! I hope that once again this turns into a challenge to inspire other riders to push their own limits".
The Epic Brenin challenge will start at 8am on Saturday 28th February with all three riders aiming to complete the ride by 6PM.
Support for the ride is being provided by Tenn Outdoor, who offer a superb range of high performance cycling and activity clothing. The ride is also being supported by Cadair View Lodge who will be providing the HQ for the challenge for the riders to collapse in to afterwards. Weldtite are keeping things fast and smooth and Exposure Lights are again on hand to turn night to day.
