Okeford Hill Mountain Bike Trails Set to Re-Open
We are excited to annouce that MTB trails at Okeford Hill formerly known as UK Bike Park is set to re-open next month under the management of Hammoon Cycles.
Update from Hammoon Cycles
After nearly a year of working with the Forestry Commission to get Okeford back in business Hammoon Cycles started last week on a new access track... After 2 very cold days, 2 diggers, 40 tons of gravel and lots of help (thank you!) we now have a new access track!
Next job is to get the trails ready to ride & making the park ready for visitors (we would love some help).
The park will be Open for riders on Saturday 12th March & will be hosting the first Downhill Race on Sunday 13th March 2016 (Booking Via British Cycling website by end of this week)
At the beginning of the season the current uplift track will be used as the climb/push-up. By mid 2016 the aim is to get the uplift running again.
Throughout 2016, the plan is to broaden the appeal of Okeford Hill as a riding venue. This includes creating a teaching skills area and offering regular coaching for all ages and abilities - and potentially running girls only days/weekends if there is enough interest.
Another important improvement to the venue is to make an easier, longer trail to help build confidence in new or younger riders.
For 2016 the plan is to hold Nine DH races including a Southern Championship and create Gravity Enduro, Cyclocross and XC trails.
Hammoon Cycles, will also be holding test days at Okeford again, this year we will have Orange, Intense, Saracen & Genesis bikes to try out! Dates to follow shortly.
Right - the important stuff…
Day pass to ride will be £5, this is to be paid on the day, you will receive a coloured/dated tag for your bike.
Race entry will be via British Cycling and will cost £30 - this is for riding on both Saturday & Sunday and the race entry.
Facilities - there is a toilet on site at all times (locked when the site is closed), and for race days there will be food available. There will also be a first aid trained person on site whenever we are open for riding or digging.
This is a great venue with some skill challenging steepness and years of previous development. It has potential to come back even better than ever.
Get involved…Okeford Hill needs YOU!
British Cycling Commissars. There is a one day FREE course on Saturday 27th Feb. Run by British Cycling. You will then be able to officiate on any British Cycling downhill or xc events.
