Stockley Mountain Bike Trail Opening soon
A new 2 kilometre mountain bike trail located near Glapwell in Chesterfield is in the final stages of development and is due to open within a few weeks.
Trail build specialists Bike Track are in the final stages of finishing the blue graded trail at Stockley lane which has been managed by Bolsover District Council working with local cycling clubs and volunteers.
The planned route will be alongside the Stockley Trail which is a two mile multi-user trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders at our Glapwell-Stockley pond countryside site.
Councillor Simon Spencer, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said:
Derbyshire has a growing reputation as the county with the most connected cycling routes and provision nationwide.
"This is a welcome and exciting development in the creation of a wide variety of leisure opportunities at our countryside sites. Visitors can easily reach this site from junction 29 of the M1 and we expect the new route to attract interest from keen mountain bikers living locally as well as from further afield."
He added: "There is considerable scope for more mountain bike facilities in the north east of the county and the county council is working to create new opportunities. By working in partnership, we hope we can create more routes in the coming years to encourage more visitors to our countryside sites."
Bolsover District Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure, Councillor John Ritchie said,
"We are surrounded by beautiful countryside which we want to make available to everybody so they can enjoy themselves.
"Cycling has been one of the biggest growth sports over the past few years and creating this adventure trail will provide a safe environment for people to cycle and explore the great outdoors."
