Gorrick MBC announce the date for their new Gravity Trail Enduro

We like to move with the times here at Gorrick, so this Spring we are going to be running a new type of event for us.

What is this all about?

We have been looking at our great little venue at Frimley Green and thought why not use the hill for a Gravity Trail Enduro. The team have had a good look, we have checked out some local and regional events, rechecked the venue and given it the green light.

What is a Gravity Trail Enduro?

A gravity fed timed race event, a race but not in the XC Enduro sense as you will not be competing shoulder to shoulder, this is you versus the course. It is also not a pure downhill event, so they will be no gnarly steep descents or massive drop offs. It is a circuit of the venue which includes a number of timed trail stages, so you won’t need a special bike with loads of travel either, just bring what you have and enjoy. You will be helped on your way by good old gravity but you will still have to pedal a bit. What’s not to like.

What is the Event

From the Start riders are dispatched in groups at intervals. The event is made up of a number of short trail stages, ridden against the clock, linked together with non-timed sections. There are categories to suit all levels of ability and age. You ride all the sections in any order over the circuits specified, and can ride in groups, with friends or on your own, whatever you prefer, with all the stages open throughout the day up until the finish time.

You get an opportunity to view the stages before the event but you will not be able to pre-ride. We use electronic timing from Sport Ident, so you will have a transponder to carry with you and beams to pass through at the start and finish of each stage. Riders will complete 3 circuits and after each circuit you can return to the arena to download your times. Marshals will be on hand at each section to ensure sensible gapping to suit riders requirements. All stage times will be added together to give the riders overall result. A helmet must be worn at all times, gloves, eye protection and pads recommended.

The Venue

Area 51 is a great venue for a gravity trail enduro because nowhere is flat and it has a great hill, allowing a variety of sections to flow from the ridge line. The whole area is open mixed woodland and heathland, well-draining with good parking on fire breaks and within the woods. It is particularly good for viewing the stages from so you can follow the progress of your friends or family during the event. Cheering and banter is of course an essential part of these events. The arena has full catering all day, event registration, the event control centre, timing marquee, results screen, start and finish points, trade stands, toilets and paramedic ambulance. There is no overnight camping on site.

Sorry, no refunds or transfers once entered and the event cannot take any entries on the day.

Entered riders will receive an event information email in the week preceding the event.

Why not give it a go?
