Forest Fire at Cwmcarn

Some of you probably already know, but on Friday 13th Cwmcarn Forest suffered a massive fire started deliberately by some local kids.

Darrell from CwmDown Uplifts just posted this update on the current situation:

I have not been up on the mountain yet, as the Fire Brigade are still on site, dealing with the last remaining hot spots. So I'm hoping to get an update from NRW in the next few days. But there has been extensive damage caused by the fire. I understand it has penetrated the top part of the Y Mynydd DH track, as well as parts of the Twrch trail. So it may not be open again for a couple of weeks. The trail itself won't be the problem, it will be the bigger trees which are no longer structurally sound. So they will need to be chopped down before the track can be made safe.

If you are booked in next weekend, you'll get an email/text by Wednesday at the latest if we are not running. Sorry I can't give more info at this stage, but I'm not even allowed up there myself until the Fire Brigade have given the all clear. If you would rather cancel, then just drop me an email and I'll arrange a refund for you.

As soon as I have more info, I will send out another email with an update. Online bookings are still open, but please understand we may need to cancel on a week by week basis if the situation drags out longer than expected.
