Bikepark Lienz kicks off the 2023 season

Only two more weeks and the wait is over: On 18 May the Bikepark Lienz will finally open its gates and the mountain bike season in Osttirol will officially kick off. And it will get only better as only a couple weeks later, on 24 June, the Bikepark Großglockner Resort will follow as Austria's sunniest region is unleashing its full mountain bike potential.

But Osttirol's bike parks can not only rely on their location between the Großglockner, Großvenediger and the Lienz Dolomites, as they prove themselves season after season with outstanding mountain bike action on perfectly shaped lines. Two event highlights promise to make the shred season at Bikepark Lienz even more special: first, the Specialized Trail Days at the end of May will transform the bike park into a vibrant party zone, while two months later it will be all about downhill racing when the auner Austrian Gravity Series will host its third stop in Lienz.  Like last year, Bikepark Lienz is again part of the Gravity Card, the largest European bike park network of 28 bike parks in 7 countries.

Located between the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 3,798 meters (12,600ft.), and the Lienz Dolomites, Bikepark Lienz starts to shed its image as a secret spot. Its four bike park lines, "Flow Family Trail", "Alban Lakata Trail", "Peter Sagan Trail" and "Welcome to the Jungle Trail" with a total length of twelve kilometers offer good flow, massive airtime, challenging root passages and demanding rock gardens - in short: everything a mountain rider thrives for. "I love the bike park in Lienz. You can hardly find any brake bumps. And the trails are designed in such a way that they are suitable for all levels, depending on the line choice, and offer mountain bike fun for families and for experienced bike buddies alike. Then there's the town of Lienz, which lies practically right at the foot of the bike park and with its historic old town is perfect for ending the shred day with ice cream, pizza or a beer," says René Unterwurzacher, chairman of Ride Free Osttirol and involved in every event at the bike park. Local hero Gabriel Wibmer is also always enthusiastic about his home trails, too: "The Bikepark Lienz is truly unique. The trails are super versatile and have a completely different character depending on the line you choose. In addition, there is this impressive mountain panorama - which of course also plays a big role. Here at Osttirol you're riding between Austria’s highest mountains, the views are breathtaking."

Bikepark party mile with the Specialized Trail Days

After a three-year Corona hiatus, the Specialized Trail Days at Bikepark Lienz celebrate the return of the renowned bike festival. From 26 to 29 May, around 1,000 like-minded bike and party fans will test the newest bikes, take part in guided tours and riding technique training, relax at Yoga for Cyclists or party to music from a total of nine live acts. "The Trail Days are first class. They give us the opportunity to present not only Bikepark Lienz, but all of Osttirol as a bike region and to firmly anchor it in the minds of many bike fans," says Mario Tölderer, CEO of Lienzer Bergbahnen and manager of Bikepark Lienz.

Downhill Cup feeling at the auner Austrian Gravity Series

Barely two months later, the third round of the auner Austrian Gravity Series 2023 brings downhill cup feeling to the Bikepark Lienz. On Saturday, 22 July, downhill enthusiasts of all kinds (license or ÖRV-BikeCARD required) can compete in eight categories from U13 to Masters 2 (1973 and older).  "It is a race that is not aimed at professionals and participation is possible with little effort. Even with a one-day license, young people can participate and gain their first racing experience. We are very happy to welcome the auner Austrian Gravity Series again in Bikepark Lienz." explains René Unterwurzacher.
