The geometry is ruined - not entirely sure how anybody rides that thing. *BB height sarcasm overload*
Goober replied... on 10 October 2011
I don't know what you started. But I did measure the eye to eye and it was 6.5 with 2.5 stroke like the stock shock I replaced. Mine had 100mm Judy XC's on it when I got it. Yes the CoG is raised but I don't mind it it suits the type of stuff I ride over. I do alot of woods riding where there are not clear trails and you have to climb over fallen trees. I got tired of not being able to just stay on my bike. So that's why the BB is raised. Does that make a little more sense now. I know its not pretty and some people would not like the ride. But I do and that's all that matters. The white brothers fork was made in 1998 to go on the "y" frame bike to make them more like what the manufacturer said the bike were ment.I appologize to you as well. I thought you were spoonyman hence the bike comments. Good choice in front forks though. I have noticed something about mine You can't really tell by the picture but my steertube is recessed way back from the others. I Really noticed when sitting next to a buddies sant cruz with boxxers on it.
Longman2012 replied... on 10 October 2011
I would love to feel how it really rides.
Longman2012 replied... on 10 October 2011
What have i started, lol!!!
surreel replied... on 8 October 2011
Do you actually know what you are talking about? Do you know what things like axle to crown length, negative trail and eye to eye length? No? Somehow, I don't think White Brothers designed their 150mm travel DH fork to work on a bike which originally came with Rock Shox Indy's at 63mm of travel. I believe the bit about steerer tube angle again to be total rubbish to, are you saying that you have offset crowns to enhance the geometry of the bike? If the shock is a factory spec replacement, then how come it is longer? The OEM shock would of been a glorified pogo stick in the back end, probably minus any form of damping, so how would Fox have a tune for both the rebound and the compression circuit. The longer shock has not only raised the BB height, affecting your CoG but decreased your front centre, decreased the reach and increased the stack and standover height, probably making the bike pedal and turn like a pig.
As for the whole retro comments, I'm sure my Marzocchi Z1's will be running just fine come May next year when they reach 12 years old, although I have no idea why you have comments about Konas or Mondrakers
Goober replied... on 7 October 2011
Sorry no disrespect I meant to say stinky/stab/operator Mondraker
Goober replied... on 7 October 2011
The fork was actually designed for that bike it will not work on a newer bike it won't fit the new style frames. The steer tube angle and length only match that style frame. The rear shock is a factory spec replacement per Fox Racing's tech support. Sorry I haven't ripped the head tube off yet but I will make sure to let you know if it ever happens and I will make sure to send you the pics. Get back to me in twelve years and let me know how that Moondrake is doing o.k.
surreel replied... on 7 October 2011
I think you misunderstood what Spoonyman is saying. Your Giant has a higher bottom bracket, affecting the CoG of the bike which results in a bike that isn't as stable in the corners as it used to be. Plus matching long travel forks with a low axle to crown height to geometry designed around 80mm of travel could lead to negative trail and such steep head angles that if you G-out the steering will become twitchy. That is, if the extra stiffness of a dual crown fork and the leverage of a longer fork doesn't rip your headtube off
But of course, you're a real rider so what's it matter to you eh?
Goober replied... on 7 October 2011
It takes a real rider to ride a quality retro ride. Its from a time when you actually had to know how to ride a bike and not just be happy with what you bought from an LBS.

I have a Giant Box One, same frame i believe, just a few differences. Love what u've done with yours. Very retro! How does it handle with the bigger shock & forks? Ps rate mine please. :)
Goober replied... on 5 October 2011
Will do. And I haven't found anything they it couldn't handle yet. It has way more groung clearance know then it did before. So logs are no longer a problem and the thing is so plush that it eats up rock gardens. I pretty much just point it in the direction I want to go and just let the bike do what it wants.

for some owners, bikes don't last 13 years, you must be one heck of an owner and this must also be one heck of a bike to last this long.
Love the FOX SHOX, it makes your bike look agressive. awesome bike!

Nice ride. It remids me so much of the sort of bikes I drooled over when I got into mountain biking in a big way. I can imagine still owning my frame in 10 years time, when you build them from scratch they are just so hard to part with. I bet it still holds its own thanks to the parts upgrades.
Goober replied... on 30 October 2010
actually i think it does a little better because i know exactly how its going to react unlike guys who have only had their bikes for a couple of seasons.
