Forestry England Reopens Popular MTB Trails at Kielder Forest
6 November 2024 | By billy1979Forestry England has been working away on a major MTB project at Kielder Forest to repair the severely damaged sections of the Lonesome Pine Trail from storm Arwen in November 2021.
You can now (with caution - NEW TRAIL SURFACING) ride the Oliver's Oscar and Skydive sections (note: the bottom of Skydive will be shutting for some snagging work for a couple of days soon.
Forestry England's Northumberland Recreation, Public Affairs Manager added:
"This is a real milestone moment, not just for the Kielder area but wider Northumberland and the North East- to have created the 1st all accessible mountain bike trail in the region in the aftermath of all the storm Arwen damage is something we are proud to get open again for the public.
Today is about getting riders out to sample the trail and give feedback before the formal launch. Seeing cyclists as young as 6 and some nearly 80 years old out on the ride today just shows how popular the renewed Lonesome Pine Trail is going to be"
The full descent from the trail down to Kielder Garage will be formally opened at the end of November.
