Mabie is one of Scotland's premier mountain biking destinations, catering to riders of all abilities. Its tranquil woodland setting provides a relaxed atmosphere. Though near Dalbeattie and Ae, Mabie offers a more natural experience on softer trails featuring roots as obstacles. It has fantastic blue and green trails for beginners as well as the popular 19km Phoenix Trail for experienced riders. The expert-level Dark Side trail is a black-graded North Shore route recommended for walking first before riding.
Grade: Green (8.0km)
This trail offers gentle slopes and sweeping scenery for an easy, enjoyable ride with excellent views of the Solway Firth and Nith estuary. The route primarily consists of forest roads with manageable gradients, ensuring a pleasant experience.
Grade: Blue (10.0km)
The Viewpoint Loop trail features more technical single track as it shares a section of the red route, making it suitable for advancing riding skills to that level. Riders return on the green route with opportunities to stop along the forest road for scenic views of Dumfries and the Solway Firth. A telescope is also provided to enhance perspectives from the route.
Grade: Blue (10.0km)
The Woodhead Loop explores the far side of the forest using forest roads and some easy singletrack. This route is suitable for beginners looking to gain confidence on more challenging terrain.
Grade: Red (19.0km)
The Phoenix Trail is a mixed cross-country route through stunning woodland. Riders can expect natural trails and singletrack with some fast and challenging sections featuring rocky obstacles and tight berms. This route provides a cross-country experience through majestic woodland via both natural trails and singletrack.
