As everyone says you have got to climb and then climb some more but its a great ride and really enjoyable. I rode it on a cold and snowy February morning and it was fantastic but the north shore sections were so slippy they were un-rideable and caused me a lot of pain!! Beware!!

Review:
What Kielder Castle has to offer is not worth travelling very far for. People will still ride there though because they'll come for the outstanding Deadwater trails and massive Lakeside Way.

I get the impression the bike park area was designed by someone who doesn't actually ride trials (I do mean trials. I didn't just spell trail wrong.) or dirtjump/freeride. The jumps are seriously poor, the first being more of a lump followed by a kind of big hump which leads to the main jump which isn't straight but isn't a hip, has no real kicker/lip and feels all lop-sided. The northshore seems well put together though and will be more than a challenge for most average riders. I can't really say much about trials other than what one rider told me which was again, pretty disapointing. The skills area is decent enough but not as good as Hamsterley Forest's Loop.

Go to Kielder. It's great, but don't expect to be too impressed by what they've done at Kielder Castle.

I totally agree with the guy who said climbs climbs + just when you think your done, there's even more climbing! I suppose it's to be expected seen your heading up onto Deadwater Fell, and the view is nice up there. Very rugged road, pretty boring to be fair, but through the trees and descending is superb. I like the north shore section near the end but had to chicken out of Dougie's Day Off.. didn't have the balls for this but maybe next time. It seemed over fairly quick with completion just under 2hrs so I'd recommend a few blasts round the new free ride park. The North shore section is class and there's a pretty big booter which could potentially put you into orbit.!

I'd rate this trail 9 for the descents but I couldn't help thinking the uphill sections out numbered the descents 3:1

Had a great day up at Kielder today, the red trail is superb, especially for riders who aren't ready for drop offs and jumps. The x country is superb with MANY LONG inclines, on the + side resulting in long decents. The ride is worth it just for the view at the top. Great ride for fitness. Would do it again, had no problem with the signs as another rider/poster has said (they must have updated them).

Summary:
Great quality trail aimed at those beginners looking for more of a challenge. A bit shy on berms and rocky features, but beautiful for sure.

Review:
This is a really nice trail. It lacks the craziness of the deadwater trails and is probably not enough to keep the adrenaline junkies happy, seemingly being aimed at those will more stamina than off-road skills.
The descent to Kielder castle does lack a bit of flow in places. Just as you get going you can often round a tight bend and hit an incline and there you are back to a slow climb again or where there should be a berm to help you carry speed through a corner there is more of an off-camber turn which means you have to lose that speed in order to get round. The northshore section on the moor is about six feet wide and even wider on the corners so it shouldn't put off many riders. No skinnies or scary stuff to be found up there. The views are amazing and the scenery all the way round is beautiful. The trail could do with a few more rocky features to jump off or pick your way over or through but, all in all a another cross country gem from the Kielder Trail Reavers.
