Codename One allows Java developers to build native mobile apps for all mobile platforms. Specially Codename One enables true native apps on iOS, Android, Windows (Desktop & Mobile/UWP), JavaScript, Mac and other platforms.

To do this Codename One translates Java bytecode into native OS code and builds the native app using the platform native tools. E.g. to build an iOS app Codename One uses it's open source ParparVM to translate bytecode into a combination of C & Objective-C code then compiles the result to a native app using Apples xcode compiler. This makes the application as native to the OS as an application written in Objective-C or Swift!

This works seamlessly for all platforms and thus Codename One can bring the famed Java WORA (Write Once Run Anywhere) mantra into the era of smart devices: phones/tablets.

Codename One was founded in 2012 by ex-Sun engineers (Shai Almog & Chen Fishbein) who co-created Sun Microsystems most popular mobile tools both closed and open source.
