Can Money And Happiness Co-Exist In Our Lives?
It is an age old debate where people often question the co-existence of money and happiness in our lives. There is a group which believes that you can have the two together if you handle all aspects of your life properly and then there are some who think that this is a myth based on unrealistic grounds. Today we will try to work out the debate and come to a definitive conclusion about it.
Can money be the source of happiness?
Well, one thing is for sure that if money has not made people happy then neither has poverty. Money might not be the source of happiness on its own but the fact that it comes with endless possibilities and opportunities is what can get people excited. Who wouldn't want to have a surplus of it left even after they have paid off all their rents and bills? We all like to drive around in expensive cars, live in luxurious homes and try to bring our wishes to life. All this doesn't come cheap. The world we live in runs on money. No matter what is it that you want to do, you would need money for that. So unavailability of it can be a source of frustration and depression when we find it hard to even meet our basic needs comfortably. There was a study conducted by the Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School which proved that if you can make more than $75,000 a year then yes, money can be the source of happiness too.
What is at stake?
People who stand against the notion believe that money is a source of happiness for people who link their happiness to things. People who move beyond that and look at life from a different perspective do not give money that much importance in their lives. When you spend too much time making money to buy things that your family might need, the price you are paying for that is much higher than any amount of bank balance can equate for. Your family, children, their smiles, their laughter; what good would be all the money if you can't be around to be a part of the memories of people who matter. At the end of it all, it wouldn't be your money standing beside your bed but the people you neglected all your life to chase after it.
It is important to draw the line
For the co-existence of the two, it is important that you draw a line in your life and try to keep the two aspects of your life separated. Of course, money can bring comfort and help you buy all sorts of things which can make you happy but learn to treasure the things that matter.
Give importance to moments and people more than things and social status. Earn for them but don't waste your life chasing it that you forget to live your life.
