i ride my FR bike for xc too! have a 10 mate! i dunno about keeping up with the lightweights but i can ride up nearly anything and i get there in the end, and any lost time is soon made up on the down bit.
Dose every thing I want and more. Not as heavy as people think for a 6.7" travel bike. I ride it XC every week and has just come back from a week in the alps.

Went to Morzine and after 2 days the rebound failed so was like riding a downhill pogo stick :( There were nice forks but too fussy to set up.
