When i worked in the bike shop in 1995, this was the dogs, and the frame retailed at £1200. Years later i finally picked one up, wanged on a pair of Z1 bombers, and some 6Ti hopes, But unfortuately this tired old frame has let me down with a few pivot mechanicals and had to be replaced recently as i refuse to walk back to the van anymore, especially on the rare occasions i manage to get to the hills

Nice rebuild. This bike is still a piece of history : been riden by Nicolas Vouilloz, Steve Peat and Mike King.

apparently you can rate your own bike, but i hope my hoest scoring dont change other peeps thoughts.
Frame was very tired, but in theroy excellent, it was a bit of a budget build the drive change and mechs needed some more cash but where bomb proof LX, the wheel were a cheap ebay purchase, and the seat post was a £5 quid special cost the Thompson i was sent wouldnt fit, head set was an average cane creek also

Marketing era meant death for GT STS/LTS range !

absolutely agree buddy, thats why i have never owned an I-drive, my mate got one when they first came out and it was in the shop more than it was working, i guess it was teething troubles with the early design, but ment i bought the Marin Mount Vision from my bosses rival shop instead of the next GT after i sold the RTS
ashley_photog replied... on 17 February 2009
though that dosen't explain why they replaced it with that god aweful I-drive system, which was even more complicated, and gave no real benefit's over a regular single pivot design.
martin_fry replied... on 3 February 2009
do you mean the parallel suspension design, similar to a car design, worked well, but wasnt so good at side to side movement, as a car has a wider base position so can use wish bones, but as the frame is narrow it knackered pivot points real quick, so the design got dropped as the maintanence was to costly and other designs worked well especially when you include the fact that your legs take alot of the bumps out as well

my mate bought one years back, complete bike 2nd hand for £400. it snapped.
martin_fry replied... on 22 January 2009
flogged it for £90 which i thought was a right result, especialy after i had to replace the rear chain stay pivot with a basic large bolt and nut. Love ebay for that but Karma will repay me some day i know.
ashley_photog replied... on 22 January 2009
try BETD they still do parts for these I think, including an upgrade kit, from bushes to bearings....though they're not cheap.
martin_fry replied... on 22 January 2009
to be fair this frame only cost me £125 from a Mechanic at BikeTech in Bristol, so expected a few issues. Its so easy to hide worn bearings if you seel just the frame, and if you cant get parts coz the bikes no longer in production then its a Turkey

nice but dunt like the look of the rear suspension
but im feeling nice so heres a ten
ashley_photog replied... on 17 February 2009
Yeah I do tend to ride smooth, and I'm not that heavy so was fairly easy for the suspension to deal with my riding
martin_fry replied... on 4 February 2009
riser=rider and it aint very difficult to be better than I in either disapline, as i can be a right lazy git
martin_fry replied... on 30 January 2009
you must be a smoother riser and\or a better maintainer than I
ashley_photog replied... on 21 January 2009
Mine must have been an exception, never had any issue's with it in the 8 years I owned it.
martin_fry replied... on 21 January 2009
it was in the early days of bike suspension design and companies we still trying to understand where to stick the pivot or pivots. It worked alright but bearings became loose quickly due to fact it simply wasnt triangles

Excellent bike, had one also (check my bikes) but this wasn't the actual DH version that was ridden by the pro's. looks similar though. The original DH version had a slightly different seat tube setup. these frames were released in 97/98 and were the last version of the LTS system before GT stopped producing them in 99

The fox was just as bad around these early days of suspension, my Marin mount vision G1 came with a Fox vanila which quickly broke like many others and was subsituted by Marin under warrentee for a different manufacture, but to be fair they have come on a very long way and i now have one on my current steed, only coz i cant get a mazzochi to be honest, but fox are def the best in my opion for the rear at the present time, onlins need to do one to be frank.
ashley_photog replied... on 22 January 2009
the rockshox rear suspension unit's wern't great either. imagine what they would have been like with a Fox unit!
konastinky888 replied... on 22 January 2009
!!!!! i have one of these shocks in my bits & bobs box!
martin_fry replied... on 21 January 2009
The rear shock (RockShox super Delux) use to retail at £350, which was more than i spent on the whole of my first bike only a couple a years before, crazy days.
