I used to want one of these. A lot. Last summer someone was riding one to a site I was working at and I wanted to make him an offer for it. Wish I had now, it was in need of some love.
This bike did really well for itself, components where good, though a little worn, CNC cranks, middleburn chain rings, carbon forks and front hub, magura racelites, hope racelite skewers. Cracking peice of kit considering the cost and the year
whats not to like, classic GT hardtail, in Ali, reasonable components, bikes been dead and buried for many a year, pic was taken in mid 90's, but hey not everyone can like everyting else it would be boring
absolute honest truth is that its the same bike. The pantera frame got a crack in the top tube just behined the head tube, this was welded by a mate, and we also to the oportunity to shift the rear brake bosses into the normal position (the patera came with a U brake), resprayed, new transfers from the local GT importers in Bristol, and i had a new hack bike
This must have cost a bit at the time, I remeber those I-beam stems too. I used to have one of those chain devices, but the DCD version made by Pete Tompkins aka Mr Crud. would love to have one now.
yep, the roller nearly alway's seized after a while, and a grove was cut into it by the chain. I do remeber the Ging, but it was a bit more expensive. In fact my DCD had to have the bolts drilled out in the end as they also seized
the ging was an upgrade to the DCD, whihc with our local mud use to gunk up and then the chain would cut grooves in to the roller. The ging used a rear mech sprocket so in theory would be force to turn, but the clearnece for the chain was minute and fell fool to the mud. My made who was an engineer, milled out the roller on the DCD and put in some hope sealed bearings and this worked really well.
