I'll rate this bike for it's time. Unified rear triangle bikes were breifly flirted with by some compaines as it eliminated the problems associated with chain pull on regular full-sus bikes which gave feedback through the pedles, or reduced the effectiveness of higher pivot suspension systems where the tension in the chain would often stop the rear end from working. these bikes were produced in the mid 90's (around 96-97) at a time when Carbon fibre quality was actualy very good , it was the Thermoplastic carbon fibre that didn't last too well. I fact trek were producing some of the best carbon fibre frames in the world at the time using their OCLV technology. Unfortunately the URT suspension design ment that it wouldn't work well when you stood up on the pedals, as you were adding your wieght to the rear end.
All in all it's no doubt a good x-country bike that's comfortable to ride.
at first glance, it looks unattractive but once it sets in, you'll see the beauty of the bike. awesome, love the semi-retro look and the "FUNNY COLORS" like you've said.
Bar ends pointing to the stars looks weird annd that saddle looks a tad chunky. Lose the pedal clips and the rubber fork stanchion covers and it will look a whole let better. That said it doesn't deserve some of the low marks it's been getting and liking it to an Apollo was well harsh! The hope brakes have to be the best bit there.
wow.
Classic trek love it !
love the old frame teamed up with the new bits :)
rate mine please if you get chance
and ohh ye your bike well dads ;) is deffo a ten !
Love it!! These bikes where the type that were around when I first got into MTB many moons ago. Excellent condition for age!
And for the comments about Argos bike etc being the same design... Its these types of bikes that broke the mold back in the day. From companies who dared to experiment. If it weren't for these designs, you wouldn't be riding the ypes of bikes you ride today!
Daguv know what hes on about here! its this type of bike the cheap agros/halfords bikes took the frame design from, this trek is NOTHING like a crappy y-frame from argos..
i remember wen this was new n it was pretty much the boobs! not so cool now but a pioneer for the full sus of 2day 4 sure, 1 of the 1st to have hand controls for the rear shock! look after this its part of cycling history!!!
just trying to rate in comparison to other bike on here - old carbon frames arent good as its more likely it'll fail. As long as you ride it and enjoy it then who cares what i think.
My dad's bike, originally bought in the US. My dad lets me use it because he is cool, but really it is mine. It is not a new bike it is quite old. Funny Colours, Lock out back suspension, hope disk brakes and more.

Mad man, you're a mad man to ride this.
No beauty contest winner, but has some decent spec.
Tho I can't overlook the fact its a y frame!
ashley_photog replied... on 13 January 2011
nothing wrong with a Y- frame as long as it's built properly

Cool retro classic. Used to love these but is it right that the rear suspension only has any effect when you're sitting down?

Again, a 10 to counteract the unconsidered ratings its been given, id give a 7 otherwise..
If it really is 10 years old as skinhead says then I think its a pretty damn good bike for its age
