I remember when I first saw one of these in the front of MBUK. It had massive disk brakes and inverted suspension forks. At the time every other bike looked completely conventional! This was my absolute dream bike at the time. Nice!
sweet old school rig mate its older than me lol
its a nice bike and all those guys rating it 1 are d**** iv rated them all down so hopefuly your score should go back up
one question though, whats the frame made out of? it looks like steel in the photo lol
this bike is the beeeeeez nd eeeeeeez the oridginal delta mono box frame with the motocross swing arm i loved it then and i still love it now big respect dude have a 10 if i could give more i would
i remember these,i remember all the XC riders hating it! if only they knew what was coming.TRULY ahead of its time!!!! pehaps more dirt should start an old school catergory for bikes over 10 years old so the young kids can learn an stop posting dumb comments???
A fine example of possibly the first true Full suspension mountain bikes, and one of the earlist versions too. would have been a 10 if it had Prostop Brakes, and the suspenders forks.
these frames have been disc compatible from day one back in 91. And they had some of the biggest disc's out, the Pro-Stop's. I've been running Magura Gustav's since the pic was taken on a set of Chris king wheels.
love=velo you really need to learn a bit about the history of mountain biking, that bike must be nearly 17years old, 'Freeride' hadn't even been trademarked by Cannondale back then. and to be honest we'd all been 'Freeriding' for years before the term was coined! this WAS he first freeride bike!
Where did I say it's a freeride bike. And Unlike love=velo I do have the skillset to freeride on this. It's not what you got, it's how you use it. And if you new your shit it does have disk tabs, I just havent fitted them yet.
Classic frame with Risse shock. XTR brakes & R Mech, Bomber Z1 CR forks, Kore stem, Azonic bars, XT levers & LX shifters, Titec post, D521's XT hubs. (I took the RaceFace cranks and Flite of my kona to lose some weight, plus the LX cranks had rounded tapers).

That is HENCH! I've never seen one of these before. It's interesting to look at the progression stages MTB went through. Is it particularly heavy?

I think it was 6061 t6 Alloy, though it could easily have been a 7000 series alloy too.

drivetrain and gearing looks well specced, if you cant mount disks on that frame though Id say a new frame would be something to look out for though

a little slice of classic San Andreas, good enough for smithy, good enough for me!
I hope it still works well and isnt rusting away?
ashley_photog replied... on 12 May 2009
looking at the age and the fact no one esle had one of these in the UK back then, could this be Paul Smith original bike????
ashley_photog replied... on 12 January 2009
I'm not the only one remebering Paul Smith being the sole UK owner of one of these through the ealry 90's then. ;-)
