Kirroughtree offers mountain biking trails for all skill levels, from gentle family routes to technically challenging singletrack. The cafe and bike shop provide quality local fare and bike services.
This popular 7stanes trail centre in southern Scotland caters to both challenging and gentle mountain biking experiences. The skills area serves as a warm-up or introduction to trail features.
Green and blue trails offer easy and moderate challenges for beginners, while red and black trails test advanced riders with technical elements. Notable is McMoab with huge granite slabs and ridges connected by boulder paths.
Relax after riding by enjoying coffee and cake in the cafe overlooking stunning views.
This small set of trails provides an ideal introduction to mountain biking features. Riders new to the sport can familiarize themselves with obstacles they may encounter on longer routes at Kirroughtree. Though compact, the trails offer opportunities to practice techniques before tackling more serious terrain. It is the best location to refine skills before venturing farther.
Grade: Green (6.0km)
The Bargaly Glen route offers a relaxing ride through scenic woodlands and farmland. It is well-suited for beginning cyclists or those traveling with children. Cyclists can enjoy mixed woodlands and quiet roads in a leisurely ride through Bargaly Glen.
Grade: Blue (10.0km)
This mountain biking trail offers beautiful views of the area. It provides the option to extend the route to Doon Hill. Suitable for beginners or skilled children, the winding singletrack path includes small rock features. The route balances easy riding with some exciting elements.
Grade: Red (17.0km)
The Twister trail lives up to its name with a winding route that presents technical challenges around every bend. Riders should prepare for a physically demanding ride navigating rock steps, drop-offs, and other obstacles that require full concentration.
Grade: Black (14.0km)
Black Craigs offers fast-flowing singletrack and technical rocky features to challenge riders. A highlight is McMoab, with its large granite slabs and ridges connected by boulder causeways. Riders will encounter plenty of exposed granite and obstacles to increase adrenaline along the varied terrain of Black Craigs. To access Black Craigs, take the red-graded Twister trail halfway to its midpoint. The combined length is 19.3 miles.
Kirroughtree Visitor Centre is well signposted from the A75 at Palnure, about 1.5 miles east of Newton Stewart.
DG8 7BE is the nearest postcode. Despite what your satnav may suggest, we strongly recommend you stay on the A75 until Palnure and turn off to the visitor centre there.

The new 'Kirroughtree Wheel' opens for the first time on Saturday 22nd February, which coincides with the opening of the Kirroughtree bike and out door shop.
