Summary:
Bridle Path with some very tough climbs but rewarding descents
Review:
Based in Littleborough, we tend to pick up this bridlepath every which way, be that upto Wardle and onto the the small quarries or back toward Calderbrook. Found a cheeky section from Blackstone edge recently, follow the now gravel bridle path uphill to the White House (Pub) you may give up there, we nearly dd! Ride on the road for 50metres of so down the hill and turn left on to bridle path. Uphill and then bear right, its a dual track next to an old roman viaduct, keeping going at cross roads, carry straight on. This will then progress into a single track and it isn't used regularly. Again this starts to rise and the terrain gets a bit rockier. As you crest the summit the trail starts to dissappear, but keep going, gets really rocky and quite technical. Once you have passed the rocky section, due will naturally find the downhill both slightly technical and a couple of nice switchbacks thrown in. You will end up just above Whittaker golf course and can turn left toward Pierthorn Res or right toward Calderbrook.
If you do do the Rocky descent toward Pierthorne Res, make sure your brakes are working!!

Summary:
A moor land trail with some technical sections and tough climbs
Review:
This is one my regular trails as it is often pretty quiet. All the info you need is in the Trail info listed. All sections on the South Bridleway near Piethorne are signposted. I have recently tried the Mary Towneley loop which encompasses Watergrove, Whitworth, Rawtenstall and also Hebden Bridge. I personally set out from Watergrove and follow towards Calderdale, as I seem to always lose the trail heading in a clockwise direction. All in all a taxing enjoyable ride on a variety of surfaces, in sparse moor land.
