The Dalbeattie 7stanes mountain biking center provides highly skilled riders with excellent technical single-track trails optimized for cross-country riding. Less challenging options exist for all ability levels, such as a beginner skills loop near the parking area - ideal for warming up or introductory rides.
However, Dalbeattie has gained most renown for "The Slab, a 15-meter near-vertical rock face cut from solid granite. From the top, the slab appears almost vertical for descent.
Grade: Green (11.5 km)
The Ironhash trail offers an easy bike ride into the forest interior, primarily along forest roads. It provides a taste of mountain biking with an easy ride deep into the woods followed by a short uphill climb to impressive views over Dalbeattie. Ideal for beginners or children seeking scenery without strenuous pedaling.
Grade: Blue (14.0 km)
This trail offers scenic views and an introduction to singletrack cycling in Dalbeattie, known for its granite rock formations. Riders can expect sections with rocks and roots on the trail plus some steady climbs. The uphill sections are rewarded with beautiful views of the Urr estuary.
Grade: Red (25.0 km)
This mountain bike route features challenging terrain with a rougher and rockier surface. Ride miles of singletrack trails with optional technical sections for testing skills. A highlight is The Slab, a steep granite section offering a thrilling experience.
Dalbeattie lies between Dumfries and Castle Douglas at the junction of the A711 and the A710. For the mountain bike trails, head for the 7stanes car park you will find it on the left about 1/4 mile (1/2km) past the Town Wood car park.
